1. The Datang Light Textile and Hosiery City, located in Datang Town, Zhuji, Zhejiang Province, was inaugurated in 2001. With a total investment of 210 million yuan, it covers an area of over 400 mu and has a construction area of 120,000 square meters. The city houses 1,600 shops of various sizes and is currently the largest integrated hosiery trading complex in China, combining light textile raw materials, finished hosiery markets, hosiery machine parts markets, intermodal transportation and logistics markets, as well as convention and exhibition centers, tourism facilities, and shopping venues. Its annual transaction volume reaches 8.5 billion yuan, placing it among the top ten wholesale markets in the province. It has been recognized as one of Zhejiang Province’s Top 100 Markets, a key regional market in Zhejiang Province, and a four-star civilized and standardized market in Zhejiang Province.
Since 1999, Datang has successfully organized ten consecutive China (International) Sock Expos. The 11th China International Sock Expo will be grandly held at the Zhejiang Datang Light Textile & Sock Industry City in Zhuji City, Zhejiang Province. With the slogan “A single pair of socks takes you around the world,” Datang has thus attracted worldwide attention.
2. The sock manufacturing industry in Liaoyuan, Jilin Province, has a history of over 80 years, dating back to 1937 and continuing until 2019. Before 2005, Liaoyuan was home to more than 40 sock enterprises of various sizes, with a total of over 2,000 sock-making machines and an annual production capacity of 150 million pairs of cotton socks. In 2005, Liaoyuan was designated by the state as a pilot city for economic transformation due to its depletion of natural resources. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the Liaoyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government began consolidating and reorganizing the city’s sock industry resources. In June 2005, the Jilin Province Northeast Sock Industry Textile Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd. was officially established and inaugurated on CaiFu Road in the Liaoyuan Economic Development Zone. Thus, the Northeast Sock Industry Textile Industrial Park—the largest sock industry project not only in Liaoyuan but also in China—officially broke ground in Liaoyuan. The project has a total investment of 1.4 billion yuan, covers an area of 550,000 square meters, and features a total construction area of 450,000 square meters. The park will be developed in two phases over five years. Phase I will have an annual output capacity of 2 billion pairs, while Phase II will reach an annual output of 4 billion pairs. Once the park is fully completed, it will provide employment for 80,000 people—accounting for one-tenth of Liaoyuan’s total population.
3. Lishui Town in Guangdong has evolved from a national pilot town for comprehensive reform of small towns and a pilot town for small-town construction in the mid-1990s to “China’s Famous Sock Town.”
